This May I covered classes for an elementary art teacher for a month. One of the lessons I did was drawing Keith Haring figures with Grade 1 students, loosely based on a lesson plan from HaringKids.com. This is an amazing website with lots of great resources for teachers, parents and kids to enjoy Haring's unique style and inspiring social activism.

We viewed pictures and online animations of Haring's work. Then we discussed the elements of his style and discussed
dynamic poses and the use of lines to show movement in a drawing. The students then made their own Haring inspired pictures. They were a bit anxious about doing it "right" but soon got into it and make their characters their own! These are the results.
